Mercury 60 propping on lightweight boat

    I have a 14ft lightweight boat with a 2005 Mercury 60 two stroke with the small gearcase (1.64). I recently equipped the motor with a Ballistic 10 1/8 x 15" which
actually made the RPM increase over the standard 10 1/4 x14" Aluminium prop, something I find quite odd, but may be due to the special characteristics of the Ballistic prop. I get 45,5mph @ 6,000rpm, however max recommended on that engine is 5,500 so I could use a 17" which unfortunately Ballistic does not make as it is not a high demand item. Ballistic also said adjusting the cupping and pitch on the prop I already have will not work as it is too small to be able to effectively work. Anyone have any tips for a suitable prop for my setup?

first of all your set up must need improving as the slip figure shows 12.4% for the ballistic, that is very poor as these normally are low slip.
I would raise the engine up as far as it will go, then re-test it.
you should with the ballistic 15 at 6,000 be running around 49 to 50 mph, 4.5 mph is a fair bit extra to get.

as for props there are plenty of props out there to fit your engine upto around 22 inch pitch, ron hill makes them for sure.
her is just one for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/Signature-Pr...0-F20R3R-114/1

what boat is this you are running ? pic might help a bit

You could also try an 18" Merc chopper.
