Off Shore cut is alot like a Hoss Hyper drive looking cut compared to the 5 inch round blade Chopper. You need to use a Big blade Chopper for that cut. Depending on whos doing it results may vary I guess? I only ran 4 or 5 of them in different pitches from 26 to 30. Buy far my favorite was a 26 from a mazco prop. It accelerated like a 25 and had top end like a 27. Very nice wheels cut buy Steve Smith a few years back now. That cut was also an original style prop one could purchase years ago. They are responsible for many world records when they were first introduced. Thats about all i know.

Your right on target Whimper. Here`s a little more history on that mod: In the late 70`s Merc made the Offshore prop which was a round blade. It did well and was very popular in stock Merc form until somebody figured out that if the leading edge was "clipped" it would accelerate better and still run the same top end numbers. Outboard drag racing was becoming very popular and this mod was either designed for that or it just worked out that way. No matter it was what everybody wanted. The best thing about the Offshore was that it would keep pulling where the stock chopper would lay down on the big end. It didn`t take long before Hopkins and Hoss started doing this mod to. Hoss even started making his own version called the Hoss Triton. For outboard drag racing this all came to an end when Yamaha introduced their drag prop. One thing note worthy is that outboard drags got shortened to I/4 mile from the 2,000ft course we used to run and this is where the top end of the Offshore came in to play. Had it stayed 2,000ft things might be different today.

I don`t know who figured out this mod but a guy in Alabama named Britt Platt did ours and many many other guys props to. I won my first race with a Platt cut through hub exhaust 26P Merc Offshore and still have it on my wall along with a 24P over hub exhaust Offshore. Funny thing is a while back I took the 24 down and ran it on my Allison just for fun and it SUCKED big time against the Yamaha drag.lol
