Something is lost in translation. You don't "get the cylinders further apart" ... you use a different block.

The Merc factory block has the cylinders spaced too close together to convert to loop charging, that's why Christner made his own blocks.

Same bore, different block. Different block, different porting, different intake path thru block. Its just different, not smaller.

Centreline of cyl to centre of crank pin. Factory crank pin spacing is not staggered as new block is. I believe that's the question, unless he used unequal wrist pin spacers. But then I'm not on as desktop so I could be seeing anything lol

I thought the question was how did Christner get looper porting on a Merc crank when it won't fit on a Merc block. The answer is he did not use a Merc block. Same for Mr. Austin. Its looper porting with a Merc crank, not Merc block. The porting layout is entirely different, the mixture flow path thru the motor is entirely different.

Of course it's looper. But one pic of the block with porting looks as if the cylinders are grouped in pairs with greater space between pairs than cyl in group giving rise to what crank would accommodate this. Perhaps it's only the pic

    yes pic only
Dick just made the heads in two's
On a Merc and OMC v engines the porting is rotated to get some more bypass porting size thats why the boost port doesnt line up with the rod slot.
Check out a sled or bike engine the cylinders are miles apart

The picture of the two blocks together, the smaller one is the 66 ci block and dick's block is based off the 99 ci block.

Will that adapter take a TC or those adapters still around. Thought someone was making them? Bolt on three TCs from a CHRYSLER if you can't find Merc. 44.5mm 1.75" throttle bore and 41.3mm 1.625" venturi
