Two very interesting pictures from Brodenbach, Germany 1981.
This was the first ever race with a 2 stroke F1-V8 racing outboard 3.5 liter looper.
Of course I was there racing F3/OE dreaming of piloting the monstrous V8 one day.
The pictures show Renato Molinari and his racing buddy Carlo Columbo in boat 165 and 161.

This is Renato Molinari 1984 in the #18 Molinari/Martini/Evinrude F1.
He made his own Evinrude V8 cowling and also a new shorter mid section.
OMC did not like that and told him not to use it anymore.
1985 OMC made there own 6 inch mid section.

Yes powerabout,
The meanest, baddest, fastest and most loved F1-V8 race outboard ever built. 30 years later it is still the fastest outboard the world have ever seen..!!..
My Swedish friend Bertil Wik and his #12 Hodges/Evinrude F1-V8 3.5 liter, looper, fuel injection and 6 inch mid section. (1985)

Maybe the greatest and most colorful boat racer ever lost his life 36 years ago today.
"On October 18, 1981, Bill Muncey lost his life in Acapulco while leading in the final heat. His warm smile and love of our sport made him a "One of a kind!"

My best Bill Muncey memory:
The Race of Champions at the Miami Marine Stadium 1975 by Bill Muncey
My dream to be part of the Race of Champions at the MIAMI MARINE STADIUM.
When I was back in Sweden late August 1975 after the big race in Italy I received a letter from USA.
I could not wait to open it, and it was from Bill Muncey and an entry form for the Race of Champions
at the Miami Marine Stadium. If I remember right there was 15 SE Cats rigged with Evinrude 75 hp engines.
The Billy Seebold built boats was prepared the same way and the plan was to find the best driver in the world. This was it for me, my big dream to travel to the United States and Race..!!I filled out the entry form with my racing resume and photos.I was 100% sure to be part of this dream race but after a few weeks I received a new letter from
Bill Muncey´s race of Champions, with disastrous news.I did not qualify, you had to be a World Champ and there was no World Championship race in the
UIM – SE class back then.
I was now 3 times European/Continental Champion, but not good enough.I asked Evinrude in Sweden and OMC to help me and they tried, but the answer was still no.At that time I felt like the whole world was coming to an end, but life went on…………....and the Race…without me..!!
There must be a way for me to make $10,000.00 in boat racing..Well..it happen a year later..!!

A Molinari OZ class powered by a Johnson V6 RS 2.448 liter cross-flow with brakes. Some drivers did lots of experiments with brakes.
Most drivers ended up crashing and we all stopped with this crazy idea..
