The 1983 UK GP was run during the August Bank Holiday. Monday we raced the UIM OZ Class Sprint World Championship title.
Pretty interesting and I was really happy finished fourth overall. Renato won both the GP and the OZ class title.

I did communicate with Roger Jenkins yesterday.
As always he is a lot of fun and Roger reminded me of a few things I have forgotten.
I bring that up at the right time Jackie..

I think this bottom shot, is the best picture Ive seen yet as to how scary these things were.

Lil boats, very light, 400 HP, no capsules, one driver and two giant balls.
I believe I remember losing four drivers in '84/85???

Amazing stuff, never to be seen again.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

    Thanks for your post Instigator,

Well..NASCAR was great when rules was less and you could race the big stuff without restrictor plates and other BS rules.
Today NASCAR is struggling big time but every driver race simular stuff.
OMC run the F1-V8 series for 9 years started 1981 and ended after the 1989 season.
Yes we lost 4 drivers in 1984, mainly because there was no safety cells.
OMC, Hodges and Velden developed the safety cell during the winter 1984/85 and F1-V8 racing became much safer 1985.
If you ad up all boat racers killed during racing over the years you are going to be surprised what class they raced.
Francios Salabert raced F1-V8 all nine years and died in Bristol 1990 racing the Merc 2 liter class.
Boat racing is a very dangerous sport and today Poker Run / pleasure boats kill way more people than real racing.
Read this quote from Powerboat & Waterskiing after the London GP 1985.
PS. I raced the F1-V8 series 1983/84 and 85 and is still kicking.

Did you notice the loss in power going down to 3.0?
did the EFI and bigger revs make up for it?

Well..the V8 was sleeved down from 3.5 liter to 3.0 liter 1988 to please the Merc boys.
The Fuel Injection came 1985. I never raced a 3.0 liter V8 but do not believe the way higher RPM some people are speculating/talking about.
Maybe some increase in RPM but never 15,000 someone wrote.

    The 1988 US Formula 1 Series..OMC used a 3 liter F1 V8..!!

With the larger rods in the 3.0 I hear it made them safe to over 10k? so maybe 11k when its not your engine?
I found out they run the 3.0 to 9000 after building before delivery ( I was given a dyno check list the other day.)
What revs were you limited to with the 3.5? I think I have read its down to like 8500 to be safe?
There are a couple of articles from GG about this.

I don't really remember powerabout but 9,500 is a close number..
Take a look and listening to the video from Stockholm F1-V8 GP 1983/84, a few minutes in to the video you can clearly hear the high RPM.
This was all on Swedish TV back then..sorry for Swedish only.
Renato about six minutes in to the video.

Also pay attention to boat #8. I think Jackie need to watch this video close.
