Nick Scafidi's new DW 32 Race Boat
.

Nick Scafidi of Nick's Creative Marine
"This is Nick Scafidi's new S class 32' doug wright. When finished, It will have reworked hydrodynamics (hull-bottom) along with aerodynamic upgrades. He will be racing as S 55, Nicks Creative Marine for the 2017 season. Nick is a seasoned offshore racer and a go fast junkie. He's smart, and in to win. He has left no stone unturned to get every ounce of performance out of this little rocket. Follow along as this project takes shape on its way to the races."

"Nick Scafidi's new 32' S class Doug Wright cat arrived this week at Porta Products. It will be fitted with custom designed lifting , hatch hardware , and cleats along with newly designed light weight 8" setback Porta hydraulic transom brackets. Doug Wright was incredibly cooperative and allowed us to come to the factory and spend a day cutting bulkheads and bending the race deck to reduce the transom height to only 7". This created a steep trailing deck surface aft of the cockpit to help lift the rear now made heavier by the new 300 xs outboards. This will help it fly level while airborne and run loose in the rear on the water. This idea came from the hulk. A well known s class champion that regularly kicked our collective butts in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Doug Wright also put special inserts in the molds' running surface giving us a virgin territory to install our next design performance modifications to the bottom. These modifications will increase acceleration and allow us to turn harder and safer. We will not be disclosing the running surface upgrades. However, it will look like no other s class hull has. Hopefully it will be the most controversial bottom of the coming season. Plans are to debut the Nicks Creative Marine S 55 at Clearwater. All the best to Nicks Creative Marine from Porta Products Corp."

They say it takes a genius to make something simple . When Scott showed me those cleats when they were in the prototype stage , I shoved a looped end 3/8ths rope in one hole . It popped out the other side ready for the free end to go thru and put to use . The flush mount ones on my Motion have a welded bar across a cup where the rope just gets wadded up and ya gotta dig it out . And definitely no more put the loop thru the hole of a tall or pop-up cleat and lasso each horn and pull it tight before you can trust it will stay ... He's got another winner there ..
That three inch travel Porta jack is bad azz !
When they Hole-Shot everyone and then have Top-End too , I see a half dozen rush orders before the next race ...
I like Grey~N~Black Tattoo's .. full sleeve need's a little color though ..
Speakin of Black . Dave , why did you guys paint the bottom like that .. ?
How do you expect them to "steal" the rest of Scott's idea's ....

Black bottoms photograph better Chaz !!! A little stealthery, but as you know, ideas and secrets get "borrowed" pretty quickly !! Gary's boat is running strong with Scotts Gen 1 bottom but he doesn't have all of the "Professors" tricks !!! Gonna be a marathon to get her rigged in time for Sarasota, but that's the plan barring any delays !!!

Question on the cleat: How does it drain?
Professor always said: "I taught you everything you know, but not everything I know"
I'm amazed that the boat is able to actually benefit from the airfoil effect of the deck.

They don't drain but stuff will blow out of them quickly or you pull a rag through them. The hulk boat was built with a really high hump in the deck so that Doug (the owner) could fit in it. It was discovered that the low pressure area created helped with transom lift. That boat just dances on its toes and flys level. Rob and Dan ran weight in the rear several times. Watch them from the 1:01 to 1:15 mark- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjRWc-6Y188

The cleats don't collect water with a line through them and scavenge really well with a little airflow through them. The area is only about an ounce of fluid.
When the boat was at Doug Wrights, Scott had the opportunity to go and shape the deck design like he wanted, he stretched the back down to where the transom height is only 7". By doing so he drastically changed the Aerodynamic properties of the Canopy and it is nothing more than Bernoulli's principle, the same principle that creates lift with an airplane wing. This will help lift the heavier 300XS engines and get the hull to accelerate faster. The whale tail is Doug Wrights signature, denoting his love of Porsche automobiles !!! It's got all the capabilities that could be designed into it so it should fly pretty dry !!!
In fluid dynamics, Bernoulli's principlestates that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy. The principle is named after Daniel Bernoulli who published it in his book Hydrodynamica in 1738.

Chaz = thinkin that the next step forward will be getting back the 30 -40 % loss of areo that hanging two cowling out in the wind provide ... err .. take away ..

Chaz, you are absolutely correct ! As you are directly responsible for the stealth work you are doing on the engine side, the 15" mids and getting the cowling down out of the airflow will be critical in reducing parasitic drag at higher speeds. While the cowlings are fairly aerodynamically sound, the more they are out of the slipstream, the less drag they produce. As in ALL forms of racing, it is an accumulation of small steps and attention to detail that sets apart first place from the rest of the pack !!!

Differences in the hull designs and obvious performance gains are very obvious in this video. You also see the Venezuela boat with cowling fairings.
I appreciate the replies to my questions guys and 120 here today Chaz...mine have turned into a sort of reverse negative on me.I CAN ALWAYS MAKE ANOTHER DOLLAR, BUT I CANNOT MAKE ANOTHER DAY
