Ebay fees are high
It's been a very long time since I sold anything on Ebay. Probably 10 years or so.
I sold an old camera lens there, which sold for $358. Ebay's fee for this sale was $35.86. So Ebay takes 10% of the sale. This just seems a bit high to me. Maybe I've just been out of the loop too long...

Yup, and then if you use Paypal, they take another 3% or so. I remember when I started using Ebay in 2000 and there was a small insertion fee and only 3.3% final value fee.

^Yep, they get you X2, I stopped selling when they went to the "you don't get paid until the item is delivered" model. Thanks Ebay you f'n scumbags, I just love fronting $250 in freight charges and having $3500 hanging in paypal purgatory for a month because I'm not a "high volume" seller.

That was the first time I used Ebay to sell something in a long time, and it will be the last. I was reading their rules more closely and the more I read, the weirder it gets. Sellers cannot leave negative feedback. What the heck? I only sold that lens on Ebay because selling such an old and unique item on Craigslist would never work, since it requires a very specialized market. I thought I would give it a try, but never again.

I used to have a small business on there but stopped about 6 months ago when someone bought a $300 part, paid it through paypal, paypal withheld it even though I was a "High power seller" and in the end after three months of holding it they returned the money to the buyer. Told me there was nothing they could do when I called.

yup depends on what you sell? ebay owns paypal also go figure that. I sell a lot of stuff on ebay but I always try craigslist first then when I cant sell locally it goes on ebay and most of it sells fast but if I did not use ebay I would have so much stuff collecting dust and I mean a lot of fairly expensive stuff so I have to use them but yes they do a scam job on you just for using them but yey I just bought a very nice sohtail h-d for crap I sold on ebay I could not sell locally ????

eBay is just as bad for the buyer.
I bought a set of screws last fall for $15 from a seller in New Jersey. Seller and product were both top class.
I paid through PayPal with my USD debit card which is issued in the UK.
PayPal converted to GBP at an exorbitant exchange rate, and then my card issuer of course had to convert the GBP charge that landed in my USD account back to USD again and charge 3% for that.
So in the end, my $15 screws ended up costing $16.50.
I contacted eBay, since you are not allowed to perform currency conversion without asking the customer according to Visa scheme rule. eBay just told me to contact PayPal. PayPal said there was nothing they could do about it.
Glad I learnt that lesson on a $15 set of screws and not a $15,000 engine...Markus' Performance Boating Links:

I sold a pair of outer hideaway headlight doors and inner grills from a 1969 gto I was restoring they had broken mounts and were nice but not really useable for 40.00 to Australia the shipping could only go usps for 125.00 so 165.00 usd all he wanted to do was mount it on his garage wall. aussie is the most expensive to ship to in the world.
