I have no idea who this chap is...But! He just rewrote this ad for his project 16 Action/200Merc & trailer. The ad now says $2,400.00 OBO. Says it has to go this week, with a title. Just a FYI.

No. But just about the most fun V-bottom you can have with the right shortshaft in-line for someone. A real classic. Wanna get crazy, go through the 2.4 200 that comes with it. Great power-to-weight V-6 somehow converted to a 15" shaft on this boat and lookout! lol

This boat drove HydroStream crazy. I made the mistake of talking to the reps at a boat show in the 80's about it"s performance and they went ballistic!

Barney made several improvements to this design. Pretty much everything he did to this boat worked better. The Actions would almost always outrun the Hydrostreams. I have driven both makes several times and both were very easy to drive but the Actions were just faster. That boat even ran quite well with only an 850 G motor on it.

This one ran close to 80 mph. 14' GW Invader with 1500XS. I believe my Dad said it was a bit faster when he put it on his 15' Allison that he raced.

My guess would be 10, give or take a couple. The powerband is a little higher on the XS and the advantage is greater on a light/fast boat than on something heavier like a bassboat.

I always thought the '75 J engine like the one in this picture and the '76 and later 1500XS were in a dead heat for best looking inline 6 ever. EDIT: I didn't realize this was John's boat. I guess I knew it and had forgotten. I don't think there's ever been a better lookin' combo than a blue Viper with a 1500J engine.

He said on a short course it would pull harder through the turns and out run XSs
    Dale

They were 140 powerheads, and the 140 was essentially a 150 powerhead BECAUSE Merc introduced the 150 V6 and didn't want the confusion of both in the product line in the same year, so they down rated the 150 inline to 140 with no other changes except stickers. The X racer either had a failing memory or a lack of experience with XS's. I had both powerheads, both the standard and the J (same as XS) and on a light fast boat the XS would out perform it on ANY course. The guys that were roundy round racing were pitching 'em down for acceleration and the standard powerhead was outta' breath long before the XS.

OMC dyno'ed a few 150xs's and decided their propshaft hp was 123 ... so they would be, as Raceman said, about 10 hp more than a later "115" I6.
