    Twin Chryslers

Very interesting photo from Randy Rabe's images. Can anybody give more details on the boat and driver? This is the only image I've located so far of this boat. I cannot tell if these are Chrysler stackers, but I would assume they do have the race gearcases?

    Thanks!

Look like early motors, 68 maybe. Don't think they are stacked. Either 105 or 135. Look again later on the desktop.

The Chrysler 135 and 150 stackers came with the blue cowling.

It's a nice blue, have seen reg cowl built for stacks, they made them till 76. Looks like he's on the move. Stick it on the Chrysler Racing thread , more subscribed. The more I look at it , I have seen a pic of it for sale a while back, rough though. The add had a couple pics and described it as a vintage racer that was fast , twin 105 I think. Maybe I can find it back again.

I had not seen that boat before. It looks like it might be a North American hull but I don't recall seeing one rigged with twin anythings before. Jim Stough ran one with a big Mercruiser in the Gold Coast Marathon one year. Hank Bowman was in one when he was lost in the 9 hour as well. They were pretty common around here in the late 60s. Built in Ft. Lauderdale maybe? Race number on that boat looks to be from a special event like the Gold Coast.

The first two characters of the reg # , two numbers? Can't quite make it out but it' looks like it , not letters.

The Special Event races like the Gold Coast Marathon ran both outboards and inboards together. The inboard classes were designated by letters according to engine size, the outboards by numbers.

Definitely 105's. The 120's did not have that style cowling. Badges were down on each side

The horse power number is to the rear of the side badge, changed after 68 to forward of the CHRYSLER . The front badge is high and also changed.

That might not be a registration number. In Florida at that time the state did not require or enforce registration for race boats. I never registered any of my race boats. At nationals you could tell the Florida boats by the lack of these numbers.

One benefit of publishing Randy Rabe's trove of pictures will be to show the incredible variety of boats being raced in those days. Just about anything you can think of was tried by someone back then.

Was thinking it wasn't FL , looks like numbers. I definitely did see an ad for this boat a while back. Thought I copied the contact info, still looking. The BOSS on the bow was really weathered.

Jim, Yes...They were built in Lauderdale next to the airport. You stationed at the airport? They were on the northeast side, in the building that is still there, at the corner of Perimeter Road & S.W. Second Ave.(3355). Funny that the same building, all these years, since North American Boats went out of business in 1981, has always had fiberglass businesses in it. North American Boat Corporation was in business from 1963 until 1981. The owners have all passed away. They built the S-18 Runabout, S-19 Open Fish, S-22 Offshore, SD-24 Tunnel Hull, and S-26. Every boat was launched at the Port Everglades boat ramp & sea-trialed. Well built boats in there day.
