    Two things ran our boating lives growing up:

    1. The high/low tide schedule. High tide always meant having access to the very best running areas.
    2. Whether or not there were white caps. I am very familiar with that sinking feeling of getting out into the bay and seeing white caps. . That was a fun-killer if you had a small boat.

    So true, but we used to pound through it from Copiague to hemlock anyway, sometimes at a high tide we would go play in snake cut on the north side of tobay just get away from the waves. Best boating is up on long island!!
