    1986 2.0 135 Black Max final gear ratio?

    I am out of town working and trying to figure out what my lower unit drive ratio is. I have a standard 1986 135 Black Max 20".

    I have my serial number will that help me at all I know it tells me the year 0A980754. Trying figure out if it is 1.87 or 2.00 to 1?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Set your flywheel at TDC and mark your prop and gearcase. I run a single piece of tape across the hub and gearcase and cut the tape with a razor knife. Rotate engine 2 turns. If the tape lines back up you have 2 to 1. If the tape is past the mark you have a higher (numerically lower) ratio.

    Don't know how long you're out of town but that's the most reliable way imo. You never know if it's been tampered with, this way you'll know for sure.

    At that time most came with the 2.0 (135-150 Hp )
