660' Drag Racing
Guys, Im just getting started in drag racing after spending a few years in tunnel boats.
If you don't mind could you post some time's and speeds ? Include the class and boat, not interested in nitrous stuff, just something to guide me in a direction.
Also, do you ever see lower ET's with lower mph winning like in car racing ?

Most of the short track outboard drag clubs are 800' and are heads up races with no timing equipment, I think some Louisiana guys run 660 tho .ihba has timing equipment. There are a few guys here racing the brackets with timing equipment that could help ya. Lower ET's usually means lower mph than full course passes.
I know this doesn't exactly answer your questions but hope it helpsLast edited by Hot Shot Merc; 05-24-2017 at 02:54 PM.

What class are you interested in running? What boat do you have? What engine/midsection?

Did you go watch the races in orange this weekend? The DSRA just had an event there this weekend.
Some of the places we race are 660' because of need for shutdown room before a turn in the bayou or river and some classes are 660' every event but most are 800'.
Orange Texas and Catahoula Louisiana are 660' for all classes.
And yes to the other question lower et and mph can win a lot of times you will see another boat starting to come hard on the big end and not catch the other boat by the bouy but be way out moments after the bouy cross. Same thing in car racing.
Some people run data loggers that can tell them their et and mph just like data loggers found in drag cars, but most events don't have traps to catch and post the et.
Like Eric said , tell us a little about the boat and motor(s) you have available and we can point you in the right direction for what class you might fit best in.
Being that you are in Beaumont the DSRA will have the races the closest to you with OBDA being second travel distance wise.
Our next event is at the end of June in Morgan city LA if that gives you enough time.
Depending on what class you were running before you probublay have motors that are not far off rule wise from sst 120/140 etc that would fit into drag classes we have with some minor changes.
Aaron Campbell successfully ran a tunnel in unlimited some years back, that's the only one I know of that's ran a tunnel Sucssefuly , his old boat is on the main page for dsra.

I wish they would air outboard drag racing on TV. Mostly as you watch the the big boys in their big toys, you start seeing the outboards in the background getting ready to line up. But thats all, show over.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

It's a shame they don't anymore. Someone posted TV coverage on speedvision from Jasper a number of years ago. The advertising just isn't there for outboard drag right now. Go to a tunnel boat race and it's a lot bigger show and there is only one fast class in he races I've been too!

Shoot, I totally forgot about advertising.
