Need advice about Outboard Engine
Hi all, I am new to the forum and would like your though about trading my 2002 Mercury 250 EFI XXL for a newer Mercury Optimax 300 XS for my 2002 Baja Sportfish 25 feet ... I even saw on one of the forum that I could even gain some horsepower if I do something about the Flywheel and ECU of that 300 XS... Would that be a good option since the weight and the rigging would be about the same since both of them are 2 strokes... I would also like to know which gear case should I get (Sport Master or Torque Master), (1.62 or 1.75) and if I can buy a XL (25'') with a jackplate if I am not able to find a use XXL (30'')? Thanks in advance!

25 inch 1.75 torque master is what you will want. You can bolt a jackplate to your transom then the motor to the jackplate.

That was quick... Could you also confirm that the Bravo 1 (4 blades) prop will be the best for me and is their a jackplate that you would recommend me? Thanks a lot Joe!

The 2002 -2005 Merc 250 2 stroke is one of the most dependable motors. That said, you will see some performance gain and improved fuel economy. The question is, will the cost be worth it?

I agree Go Time... It all depends about how much I will pay, the speed I will gain and how much can I get for my 2002, 250 EFI XXL...

An XXL will limit the market and price also depends on the overall condition.
