Fresh 2.4 dont want to run under 3000 rpm

Ran this mota on the boat for 1st time yesterday and it dont want to run anywhere under 3000 rpms. Its a fresh rebuild with square port pistons, vertical front swapped to 5 peddle front shaved 0.50" with fiber reeds, wh20 carbs with 90 and 92 main jets to start 32cc heads timming at 24* .

Ran all fine on the hose for the past few weeks. But once in the water it didnt want to throtle up slowly and take off. Once it does get up over 2500-3000 it really smooths out and wants to run good and hardwith no problems at all.

This is a 1st time out on the Viking and a newly rebuilt motor and so plenty of tweeking to get it to where it needs to be.

So any and all sugestions are appriciated.

    Where do i start?

I guess my 1st step would be to seal up this hole in the 2000ish w.5L cowl i swapped from the clamshell cowl. Because i see where water has been mixing with the oil around the carbs. Also mite be shorting out a couple of plugs with the water??

Could be low speed winding in the stator. I know when the high speed winding goes out it won't rev above 3000. Just a thought.

I wasn't getting ready to say nuthin

But if I was, I'd say I'd say stator.

I wouldn't worry too much about the plugs getting wet. I had a thermostat dump hose split on me once and it was drowning the plugs but it ran just fine.

I give another vote with a low side winding on a stator also. Since it idles on hose. Take your volt meter while it's idling and check the red wire and the red / white wire (Red on one and red/ white on the other switch box) these are your two low side winding power supply to each box. They should have a minimum of 20 volts on these wires at idle, if either one doesn't or if one is a considerable difference than the other your stator is bad.

Ok. Found the timming screw all the way retarted. I oviously forgot to tighten the lock nut when setting the idle. And with that the butterfly's were part open also the cam is already tuching the roller. And #1 bleed hose was off and the the old fuel pulse valve on #5 was un capped. Started rite up and idled good and areved up good.

Checked voltage on red/white wire while running from stator to pack and was getting 1.6v... maybee im not pro ing the correct one.

Should be a red one in same place on other box, check it for reference. They should also ohm from 27-55 ohms to ground unplugged from switchboxes.

You can't read any voltages on an outboard ignition without a dva meter.

Might want to ditch that timing control box ( idle stabilizer.. ) too.

Some guys like em and leave them....It's the first thing I get rid of on my motors..jmo.

Not sure which one you removed. If your not using the oil injection system, no need for that black box either.
