Insurance
I bought a stroker Bass boat, with a 250 xs . when I called my insurance company to insure it .They told me they would not insure it as it was a high performance boat. I think it would be a good idea to have some form of insurance.

Just because you drive a high performance boat doesn't mean you are out there driving like a crazy man. Its stupid. So they shouldn't insure mustangs and corvettes either, right.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Shouldn't you have called a few insurance company's before you bought the boat ?
People say I'm lazy but it takes all my time

State Farm will insure bass boats up to 90 mph as of last fall, "regular" boats are limited to 75 mph.
Where in FL are you located because this is central FL, practically no one will insure a small, fast boat in Miami Dade.Mark

Try ALLSTATE.They insured the Paramount and the Triad with them.No problems, however I have not filed a claim.

I use Traveler's on one boat and they are outstanding, also had a $7000 claim once and it was incredibly simple with 0% chiseling on their part, hand over list of costs to repair, receive check.
On my other boat I use Progressive and it's because I never had insurance on it for years and years then one day it occurred to me I should, so I went online and opened a basic policy. At the time when I opened the policy I was putting 110 HP w/ a hydraulic jack plate on a 16 ft aluminum, I'm not sure if there was any question on speed but I was assuming the boat would be quick and nothing jumped out at me as a concern (of course your boat is faster just saying not sure they even ask)..
Either may be an option, I don't know how fast that boat goes but it does not sound like a full blown race boat to me and I wouldn't think it would be that hard to insure.

Those of you who don't live in FL don't understand. Regardless what out of state agents might tell you this is the hardest market in the country for boats over 75 mph and under 26' but like I said, bass boats seem to get a pass up to 90 mph. It makes little sense aside from the fact there are thousands of bass boats for every 90+ mph sport boat down here so they can mitigate their risk.
State Farm, Allstate, Foremost, Safeco and Markel will probably all write your boat.Last edited by mjw930; 05-22-2017 at 10:12 PM.

If I owned an Insurance Company I wouldn't write High Performance Boats. Simple risk vs. reward. Can't charge enough premiums to balance the risk. Also, many policy holders mislead their agents to obtain coverage, i.e. maximum speed 65 mph. Good luck with your claim when your 65 mph STV blows over at 120.

It is interesting to know if a 5k hp 45' offshore carries insurance or a twin turbine. Being it's supposedly almost impossible to insure your 95mph 19 footer.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.
