Adding clearance to used cylinders.
The guy that does my machine work has a block of mine to machine clearances for a set wisecos I'm gonna be running in it. Hes had it for awhile stressing about getting cylinders perfectly true and round (guy does great work and is a perfectionist). The problem is it's a .015 over block and I got .020 over wisecos. He said it's not enough metal to be removed with the boring bar, would have to be done with a hone. I wasn't aware of this when I purchased pistons. His concern is if cylinders aren't true, they will stay untrue. My guestion is, what can be used to increase clearance and true up a cylinder. Is it something worthwhile for me to purchase or would be too expensive?

I've seen same problem.....had a 015+ block and thought about sticking +.020 pistons in it...machinest said not enough meat to bore
There is a tool to "square up" a rounded ccylinder but usually used on aluminum sleeves
What's your plans on piston clearance?.....+.008 is what I was shooting for with wiescos81' HYDROSTREAM VECTOR / slightly Modified 200

Was gonna go .007. This is an experiment motor so was trying to keep cost down at least for first go around lol. The old guy is really good, and hasnt give up just being cautious and bend thinking of a way he could it. It's just been awhile and I'm ready to play lol. Was hoping there's some some type of fancy Machinest tool that would work, but I havnt a clue. Hoping some of the gurus would help me, so I could pass it on to him. Never dreamed this was gonna be a problem. What did you do with yours? Or did ya just go with a different set of pistons? Sucks cause I already have the new set!

Thought about seeing if marine machine could do it. Levi works for them I think, hopefully he'll chime in. They are close to me also

Find a machinist with a Sunnen automatic hone. One of our machine shops here in town uses one exclusively. I personally prefer a boring bar and then hone but in this case I think the power hone is your best bet.

why not see if bore can be made perfect round, then simply put the piston in and get that taken down to what you want.
this way they can be taken down a thou at a time if needed to get the clearance you desire..
has the machinist took into consideration the extra clearance of the wiseco's ?
I dont understand why he cant take the 0,15 to 0,20 plus the clearance needed ??? dont sound right

We gonna run .007, but he said the piston will start in a couple holes.

A sunnen ridgid hone is your key to getting and keeping it round. And you can sneak up on any size you want.If some of your Pistons start into the bore, your only a couple hundred strokes away from where ya want to be

Thanks for the input guys. I thought he had some type of rigid hone, had one hanging from a drive unit. But he must not have faith in it or it's not a rigid. I'm gonna give him a call next week to check on it and if he's not comfortable doing it, I'll call Marine Machine and see what they can do.
