They usually send the start up batch and the last run to the european countries.

I get a kick out of all you guys that have 1,2, or 3 boats and bad mouth a good parts supplier. We have hundreds of customers that have Sierra water pumps in their boats, never an issue. As long as you don't turn higher than 6-6500rpm they are fine, never had an issue. In a real high performance app yes use factory Merc. I only use the Merc stuff in my high performance stuff. But in a stock application the Sierra stuff is fine.

I'm all for aftermarket parts in certain things but a water pump in a 2.5 liter Opti is a real bad place for it. The issue w/ the whole cooling assembly in those, at least in my '06 models, is it's very closely tuned. They need a certain pressure out of the pump that works right with the poppet valve to keep the water flowing in the right areas at the right RPM. If you have anything out of wack with that impeller certain areas of the block and/or the air compressor just do not cool right. It's a high pressure low flow pump, all about a tight seal on the housing - I only get 1 season out of an impeller before I risk overtemp alarms, and that's in cold ocean water off the NH/MA coast.
Those Opti 2.5's are so sensitive - I bought a used lower unit once from a dealer. It had a new water pump just installed. Some dip**** long the way must've rotated the driveshaft the opposite direction, which I noticed by the way I felt the impeller flip over when I first checked out the lower unit. Not another thing was out of place but it barely pumped water from sitting there backwards just for a month or so.
After 10 years of owning these engines the only way I buy water pumps now is I go to the local dealer and pay retail (yep $48 is right) for a pair of kits, and I do so every spring (no sense having them take a set there over the winter). I've even twice had issues w/ Mercury kits I bought on Ebay - they were Mercury kits but likely sat on a shelf too long. Is just not worth the headache w/ an Opti.
Now if we were talking a 19XX [insert standard non ultra high performance carb 2-stroke here] sure absolutely probably will work, and you probably only need to replace it every 3 or 4 years, but I still tend to go for the factory stuff if it's available.
On that note, I actually know a guy who (is an utter moron yes) blew a powerhead on a black max last year because the sierra pump spun on the bushing, AND SIERRA PAID HIM $4600 FOR IT!!!! So I guess it's a good company that stands behind their products at least.

Leaky I hear what you are saying but we bought an oem and a sierra and they where the same numbers mold marks etc. I just put on sierra coils and unlike the oem superceeded they were the only ones with the same wiring seem to be fine. If I could see a difference yes oem. I think on older stuff sierra might be suppling oem. .02

Yes you can use a Sierra water pump on your 150hp with no problems. Don't worry about it.
