I actually started and was making pretty good progress, used the circular saw and made a grid pattern, and then used the air chisel to separate. I'm itchy as heck and grinding hasn't even started yet. I figured I'd throw out this PSA, if you don't know what you are doing, don't do it! U create more work to fix your screw up!

Laminate the transom cores together first, on the ground with screws. You can remove them when cured. Template the transom shape you need. Transfer the shape & cut & trim the core.

By the way. Make sure the boat is not twisted at all, and is properly supported squarely, before doing all this transom removal stuff.

Quick & easy way to template anything, is to rip a sheet of doorskin on a tablesaw, lengthwise, into 1 1/2" to 2'' wide strips. Snap them over your knee to the desired length, while hot glue gunning them together, to the desired shape.

I ended up pulling out the knees also, wanted to make sure everything was done properly. I have some cardboard here I'll use as a template, it's not a big transom, 3 ft by 18". Got the rest of it ripped out last night.

Another thing harbor freight grinders are garbage, each lasted 5 minutes before smoke poured out of the motors, back to my heavy Milwaukee grinderClick image for larger version.

Pricey, but worth it. Cuts in hard to get places, and makes un-rotted core areas come up without hull damage because of the flat cut it makes. Not a replacement for a grinder, but for all else...

First board is in, I used extra slow hardener(fiberglass supply epoxy), it's been about an hour and hasn't kicked off yet. I talked to a friend of mine who builds hi performance boats(everyone knows who he is, don't want to disclose it on here so he doesn't get hounded) but he told me to put the first (outer) board in, build the knees and mock it up, cut the outer board with slots in it for the knees, then glass it all in in one shot. That way there is never a chance of the transom getting ripped out. After that cures I'll extend the knees vertically to mate up to the splashwell delete, to build a box of sorts.Click image for larger version.

Those are some really cool huge c-clamps. Never seen ones like you have in the center with that deep of a bite that goes almost to the bottom.
    That baby's in there tight!!

I was wondering how those worked. Seems like they are getting more popular

All done, next is to lengthen the knees and install the splashwell delete panel. I'm using 3/8 foam board for it.Click image for larger version.
