On a side note I wonder why merc doesn't use these check valves

Yup. I'm trying to figure out that plug in #4. That should have a primer nipple.

Can you fit a nipple with a valve in the bottom of the engine and just let it pulse the oil to the top bearing?

I've tried looking up a newer one way valve. do you know the part number. Some of those schematics are hard to make out when they are fuzzy wuzzy.

finally got my check valve, fuel pump, regulator, pressure gauge, hoses, All ready to go except i need to find jets. Good job for a nice warm 45 degree day.
