Ive been staying out of this discussion after the last as I had said what I thought I need to but heres my take.

If someone takes the time and effort to put something together and then invite all of us to come enjoy ourselves, abiding by that persons one simple rule is simple courtesy.

Sounds like the odds just increased for Brad having a safe event. Mission accomplished-
Sure sucks that it comes to some opting to not take part over putting a jacket on when its a simple request from the guy that makes all of the effort to organize things for us. Plus l like shooting the sh*t with little Dave, hes always hospitable and welcoming.

What I get from Chummy's rule is that he cares about us......... putting on a lifeline isn't any harder than putting on a shirt..........

This is going to be a long post, skip it if you want or read it and see what can happen.

Ive been boating litterely all of my life, ask my mom she will tell you I actually took my first steps in my dads bass boat.

My dad always insisted everyone wear thier life jackets when the motor was cranked. Was CRANKED

    The speed is irrelevant.

I was taught all my life to wear a vest AND hook up the kill switches.

I was 12-13 years old, my dad and I were coming down the river heading back to the ramp on the main lake and we passed a bassboat about dark that was circling around a person in the water. This is a very popular skiing area and we just went by, about a half mile down river my dad asks me" hey did you see anyone driving that boat" he had realized that he didn't see a driver We flipped around and sure enough this man was by himself with his boat circling around him.

We switched positiones and I got In driver seat and my dad got on the bow, I paced the boat in circles until we were close enough for dad to jump in and stop the boat.

He pulled the man out of the water onto the boat, he had been treading water and was about completely spent and about out of energy and about to drown.

His life jacket was on the driver seat with the kill switch hooked up. He had finished fishing and was returning home. He started his motor, put it in gear at an IDLE speed and was putting his jacket on before getting on plane.

He had hit a stump idling and fell into the throttle and grabbed at the steering wheel to try and stay I the boat. He was ejected with the throttle wide open with the steering wheel cranked to the right as he tried to hold on on his way out.

He was in his late 40's with a wife and children at home , if myself and my father had not been there that day he would not have survived that day to go home to his family.
He was in a 18.5' boat with a 150 that probualy toped out at 60

he was trying to do the right thing and put his vest on before he got on plane but that's not enough.

You can think that you are safe from accidents at a slow speed but you are not, if you chose to not wear your jacket with your big motor cranked pray that someone like my dad will save you, I am absolutely positive that mans wife and kids will ever be thankful we happened upon him when we did.

you will never ever see me with my outboard cranked without my jacket on, my son needs me too much

I've about heard enough too, at the end of the day if someone is nice enough to put on an event, and to be part of their event they want u to wear a life jacket, then you have 2 choices, go to the event and wear a jacket or don't go to the event. If u don't like it then put on your own event.
