I need help bypassing the switch so I can start in gear. I haven't been able to find anything on it, boat is an 88' with quicksilver control box.

There should be two yellow/red (If I remember colors correctly, 95 % sure that was the colors lol)wires coming out of back of control box. You will need to connect these two wires together.

You hooked them together in the boat harness side?

Yes, hooked them together, left them apart, swapped colors, none of it worked.

I'm sorry it should be two yellow with red stripe wires going to box. Connect these two together on boat side to bypass neutral safety switch. Not good at remembering my colors, I'm getting senile!

With turn signal trim switch....
I wired both GS#1 & #2 using the shifter trim switch's to start in gear, the advantage is, it still needs to be in neutral to start with the key.
Leave the trim power wire at the shifter intact, cut & connect the trim up and down wires together and splice them into the neutral safety wire to the starter solenoid.Last edited by H20WKD; 07-10-2017 at 07:09 AM.

If your boat is equipped with a turn signal trim switch, the shifter trim switch,(Merc), is redundant.
Shifter trim wires..red power. Blue/wht, Grn/wht up & down.
Cut the up & down wires from the switch, splice together and then splice those into the power wire from the neutral safety switch to the starter solenoid.
You still need to be in neutral to start with the key, but the shifter trim button can be used to start in gear with the key on.

This is what I did. I connected the yellow and burgundy wire with the yellow and red wire and it worked.

Thats how I have always seen it done previously. Bob's method is pretty cool though, turns it in to a button start as long as the key is on, I kind of like that. I'll be running a Rex shifter with no switch on the boat I'm rebuilding so hopefully none of this even matters for my application. Great information fellas!

You can add a momentary button also and wire the button from 12v source to the trigger onnthe start solinoid.
Turn key on and push button. It will still roll over without the key on but won't start and you don't have to dig into the control box this way.
All mine are done this way
