1996 115 Mariner wont stay running

To keep it running you have to keep bumping the enrichner on the key. Drained all 4 carbs and they were full and I didn't see any obvious trash but there was a bit of varnish smell. Fuel was drained and fresh put in yesterday when the neighbor tried to start it.

I think the idle jets are plugged enough to not allow it to stay running even with the fast idle all the way up. When it starts to die out if you bump the key it will run a bit longer. It stalls without pushing the key. Trying to save the neighbor a couple bucks. Thanks Mike

Mike, sounds like your headed in right direction. Need to pull them and clean them thoroughly. Also replace the inline filter and if it still has the fuel quick connect, eliminate that joker.

Changed the filter. If you stop up the carb with the palm of your hand fuel comes out when you remove it telling me the fuel is getting there. I'm 99% sure its the idle side is stopped up. Thanks buddy ! Mike

Do all three, if there was a varnish smell. Not worth hurting a motor over. All three carbs have idle circuits.

Cool ex manifold set up on them. With diverter https://www.google.com/patents/US4914911 , not sure if they put it into production. For two cyl low speed running smoothness. In the patent the use of a diverter eliminates the low speed tuned pairing which is too early at low rpm. Dividing the four into two independent twins which can not pulse tune each other as described in the paper.
