The collection was donated to the Miami Historical Society Museum. It was stored right off I95 about NW 119 St. John donated the building also. A bunch of us made reservations to see it in 2008, and we went 3 times. I don't know if they still have it. Miami doesn't really give a ship about boat racing as evidenced by the Marine Stadium fiasco. No telling what has happened to it. The building has AC but they don't ever turn it on and the temp inside is over 100 degrees. The boats could be dust by now. I just hope his family made a stipulation like the Matheson family when they gave Miami the land for the stadium and tennis sports complex. If it's not used as intended it goes back to the family. That's why there aren't any condos in those places yet.

Here is the record setting boat, or a copy of it. John at one time in the late 60's was the absolute authority on antique outboards. They used to water ski in Biscayne Bay behind a D or F utility with a 4-60. A great family, a great man. Also collected Cords and other cars. He had a garage at his house that held about 13 cars. The outboards and about a hundred different lower units were hanging from the rafters. They lived near me where I grew up in South Miami.
