1998 Merc 200 EFI - Basic Rigging and Tune Up

    Whats up Scream and Fly
Rigging an outboard for the first time.. got a couple basic questions

On mercury 10 pin cable, brown/white and tan/white wires.. trim & temp signals? which is which?

Center of first pic, white tee in vertical water line along stbd. head .. what would that be for?
There is a tube present from lower unit for water pressure.

2nd and 3rd pics.. starboard side forward of starter.. looking at Brass barbs..
Oil lines go to upper and lower barbs? whats the extra barb for up top?
and dumb question but worth asking.. does it matter which oil hose goes to each barb?

    Thanks,

I'll answer as I figure it out I guess in case it helps someone else...

One oil line has a blue stripe, the other does not so I'm going to take that as yes it matters which goes to each barb.
On the oil tank the hoses plug in one high, one low, so that's how I'm putting them on the motor.

Usually the blue stripe is air. As in sky (air) is blue. It goes to the pulse fitting on the star side low on the engine. On the tanks cap the air barb is the one without the pickup on it.....Brown /wht is for trim signal. Tanwhite is for temp signal. The white t is for a water pressure gauge. The brass t is the oil inj hookup, use the side barb. One going down is a pressure relief that is not used.

On the wiring.. Im calling tan/wht temp cause it goes up on top the head
Brown/wht goes under motor so trim

I'm nervous to work on this but it seems all common sense. Im about to just jump in and get it done

Purple is key on power, red is always hot. As usual black is ground. yellow w/red stripe is start circuit. It's no biggie...Just do it, you will be an expert in no time...

Agreed I need to get a manual..
Until I get my hands on one.. another question:

I have loosened the manual trim release screw and trimmed up with a hoist.
Manual screw tightened back down, lower hoist, motor does not stay in place, it drops..

    Trim fluid needs topped off?
    Could this indicate anything worse?
    Thanks
