Webbing paint on floor
I just gelcoated the floor with waxed gel with intentions of putting in new carpet over it but I kinda like the white floor. I'm thinking about leaving the white gelcoat and adding some webbing instead of the carpet. Can I use paint on top of the waxed get or do I have to use gelcoat ? If I use gel and webbing solution how do I prep the waxed gelcoat that I just put on it to make the webbing stick?

Waxed gel coat not even paint will stick properly !! Waxed gel is a finished coat !! What about clipping down polypropylene boat carpet ! it is simple to unclip and remove plus the water doesn't soak into it and it drains completely dry when the boat is left with the nose up !!If you stick anything you are going to have one hell of a job getting it off later if you want to change it of do repairs under the floor !
The other advantages of carpet its soft to walk on you cant slip over and if you spill petrol you can take it out and wash it !damned if I'd do webbing !!That's 50 year old technique real old fashion! I haven't do any of that for at least 30 years !
Always used a small pressure pot !you have a lot more control to get the finish you looking for ,wow That's really old style !!Last edited by tunnels; 04-17-2017 at 09:45 PM.
Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!

Just shoot the web over the floor. 2% mek for the gell portion only. I like to do 2 sometimes 3 colors on the floors. Makes it kinda non-skid also. Wash it if it's gotten dirty. It will stick ok...Put wax in the web solution also or the web will stay tacky. Thick paint web will also work. Gell will stick better though.

I just ordered my supplies to web the floor. I'm going to 80 grit and dewax the white gel I put down yesterday and recoat with white gel again . I'm going to do red and black webbing, do I need to apply the webbing while the white is still wet?

Let the white set up some. But ideally in a time frame before fully cured would be best. 1-2 hrs...Tape and paper everything off. It's a mess. I like to shoot the web from a good distance and in a slightly level stream so you get good webs. No atomization and open fluid on the gun for big webs, and some atomization and less fluid for smaller finer webs. Doing a test shot before w/o hardener on some cardboard might be good. I like shooting webs, it's fun. Don't get carried away and shoot it too heavy. If by chance you do, shoot some white webbing over the whole thing to lighten it back up.

I was worried the color from the webbing may bleed onto the white base color. Just a regular spray gun ? Any particular size fluid tip?

Bleeding over is usually not a problem. I like a old fashioned binks #7 with a #36 fluid cap and needle. One of the harbor freight economy guns with a 2.0 cap will shoot it too. To make the red/black are you using some clear gell as a base or just tinting up some resin?

I ordered some neutral base and red pigment and some premixed black gelcoat . All I have are Sata gravity guns with 1.4 tips, I've got some old sets of needles and fluid nozzles that I could drill out if needed

Now your cooking! Try the 1.4's and you might be surprised that they give you what you want. Just practice with un-cataylized material. The webbing makes a mess in your gun, clean it good.

If you can do pics, post some up so we can see your results. Webbing is kinda like abstract art, all different styles. Every one different.
