    Dry stacking crossflow V6

Wondering if there is a thread with some detailed info on doing this to my crossflow. I found a 2003 post from Racer detailing some of it but was looking for some more details. Or is this just not needed? I run a 16" Taylor mid, no exhaust liner. I hear it is very minimal advantage if at all on anything but a more modified motor.

    thanks

Plenty of views, no replies. Here is what I gathered is the best way to dry stack a crossflow V6: block off both water dumps in the adapter plate at the bottom, drill 1/8" holes in each dump directed out to cool the mid. On the upper side of the water dumps drill and tap for 3/8" pipe fitting and dump that out the pan on each side. This is with no can, cut the can (exhaust liner) off the mounting bracket and keep that for the water tube.

sound about right? Is it even worth it? Again I run a 16" taylor mid with no can already so if it will not help I may as well leave it stock since the motor is mostly stock. No 9 pages on these motors, just some extra compression and open exhuast

Sounds right. That's what you would do with a Mercury. I like it because you now a visual of the water dumping from poppet and stats so you know what's going on with them if you have a problem. Supposed to reduce back pressure by removing water. I didn't tell a big difference with performance from mine. But like being able to see the discharges . Just my 2 cents

Extra heat on midsection and on water pump housing. I would aim one discharge at pump and one at rear of mid to help cool both if possible.

If you run hot and lean how long before you melt the tuner?

Just doesn't seem worth it for anything other than a modified motor. Especially if you are river cruising, it seems so much safer to dump on the water pump and cool that stuff down. I would think a tuner fitted to your purpose and engine would have more effect than the dry stacking. I think some racers even have the dry stack on some type of delay. Get the back pressure off the gun then dry stack after 1/4 track.

Prob not worth it in river boat. But my crazy self always gotta try stuff been running a dry stack on my bass boat for years with no problems. Even through my screw up of filling in starboard pick up holes on low water pick up and stuck two pistons. Heat didn't hurt a thing in mid not even water pump.

I take that back, I'm lying. Every horsepower you pick up without harming reliability is worth it. I don't feel I picked up much with the drystack but didn't loose for sure. I figure if I pick up a couple horses here and there in few dozen places after awhile I have a strong reliable motor. I can't help it I'm a power junkie, if I think something can gain some ponies I'm gonna try it at least once. Life's too short to drive stock junk lol! My lawn mower ain't even stock! Some things may not be practical but may be what it takes to give you that edge on the next guy. I know, it's a sickness. But that's why where all here, we all a bunch of junkies feeding off each other lol

I will give it a try later this year and report back. I have 3 complete motors so plenty of parts to play with this summer. No if I only had plenty of time this summer! First kid will be here in a month! No time, no time.....

HA! My buddies all say the same thing. Sell it all they say! You don't need it and will not get to use it! Already gave up on racing hare scrambles again this year, that is just not going to happen, and without riding yet this year I would die doing a 2 hour race for my first ride of the year...........
