Questions about a Pathfinder 22 Tournament & Yamaha 250 SHO

    Some opinions Please?

My son is looking pretty hard at buying a 2006 22 Ft. Pathfinder Tournament with 250 Yamaha SHO. Boat is super clean, motor is maybe a year old, 100 hrs on it. Nice aluminum trailer. All very clean. so he tells me and the pictures I have seen are good.

He is almost 1000 miles from here so it would be hard for me to go look at it with him.

    Owner is asking 24K. Firm.

    Thoughts? To much?
    Good deal??
Motor is kinda heavy at about 515 LBS. But it should scoot pretty good.

I am unfamiliar with the boat, and not a Yamaha fan. I know they build a great motor...........I Just like my Merc's.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated

Salt water boat...But well maintained. Yea...Oxymoron....

Last summer I fished on my nephews 2005? 22ft with 200 Yam VMAX.

I'm still not impressed with the looks or layout, but its definitely built well. Yes, there's only so much you can do with the deck, storage etc of a flats boat, but the fit and finish were good for an 11 year old rig and I climbed all over it looking for anything to razz him about. We fished it hard for a day and the Yamaha had plenty of power. For sure wouldn't hesitate to buy one if the price is right based on that experience.

    How did it handle?
Stern heavy? Guessing the 200 Yamaha was a lighter 2 stroke motor. So probably OK.

I'm concerned it will be stern heavy with the 4.2 Liter Yamaha 4 stroke.
The one my son is looking at does not have the rod locker storage bins. Which is OK because that frees up the floor space.

    Thank you for your thoughts!!

Stern heavy - no and he added two power poles off the jack plate and it wasn't noticeable. Not sure how the overall weight of the 2S VMAX and power poles compares to the 4S.

Handling - no issues at all. We ran it pretty good in the twisties of the delta and the only thing was it felt a tad odd standing at a leaning post vs. a sit down bass style and running that kind of speed. No fault of the boat.

When I got behind the wheel, the senses picked up things that riding as a passenger can't and it felt good. Not sure if his had the rod locker or not but I do remember it seeming like it had limited deck space for a 22 footer.

*note, we didn't encounter anything more than a few boat wakes that day so I'm unqualified to say if how it handles chop*

Pathfinder are very popular in our area, coastal Georgia. They are a high end bay boat that is a designed for inshore to near shore fishing. Most boats are Powered with f 150s that will push the boat app. 50 mph. The 250 would be my choice and would run 60 mph all day.Good ride except in a following sea. That's a good price on the boat.

    Thank you!

Haven't heard back from him yet. My son was supposed to go for a wet test yesterday. I told him to take a fishing pole and load up the bait wells.
If he gets serious and decides to buy it I may have to go down to see it in person. Before the cash trades hands. Sounds like a nice boat....but you never know the "whole" story when buying a used boat!!

    Thank You.
