Anyone running wiseco pistons in Mercury v6 without seizure probs

Just trying to find out if wiseco has corrected their past issues with seizure in Merc steel bore v6 engines. I used them years ago and had issues. Thanks

T-Rex has convinced me to run them in new motor I'm building now. I'm nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs! He swears he ran em in all his drag motors. Min clearance is .005 and suggest .007 to .008. Also said very important to do proper break in/ heat cycles on new pistons. Feels this is where most go wrong. I'll let you know how it goes. He's never steered me wrong yet, but dang I'm nervous lol

Nic motors are fine, steel motors with unaltered cooling systems are fine with a careful break in. Steel motors trying to run a hi perf cooling system have to be choked down to make at the bare minimum 140 degrees and run .005 minimum clearance with a very long break in.

I remember reading about people here successfully using Wisecos.

As Forbesauto says, huge clearance is required. The break-in program is something zen-like along the lines of the lines of
    1. Turn around rotating assembly by hand for 1267 degrees. Wait for at least 24 hours for engine to cool down
    2. Idle for 1 minute. Wait for at least 24 hours for engine to cool down
    3. Idle for 5 minutes. Wait for at least 24 hours for engine to cool down
    etc

The break in for a steel motor with race cooling is tedious as hell. Or you can run it wore ass out .008. I get away with .005-.006 on my 2 liters but it is a 20-25 hour break in 18:1 on premium plus.

Last time I used them was probably almost 15 years ago, used the recommend specs from wiseco, (it's been a long time can't remember what they were) did 20 hours break in,no over 4k for the first 10, regular Mercury oil at 25:1 for break in. After 10 no over 5000 for the last 10. Probably had a minimum of 10 hot/cold heat cycles, if not more. First time I got on it motor seized, on a 2 piece plate, poppet, diverters, 140 deg stats. Redid it again, added .005 clearance to what was recommended, same deal. Put vertex in and never had a problem ( motor is still running today, 7k rpm. This was in a 2.5/200. Anyway, I was thinking about it for my 3 litre. I'm in the process of lightening a set of wsm pistons for it, and was thinking about wiseco, but unsure. I was surprised to see an 18 gram difference between a .015 and .030 piston from wsm though.

Is it just the Mercs, or all ? I believe if measure the piston and cut to what's on the box you should be good for everyday running, think I went .0065 and long break in .

I have friends that use them in omc stuff with no issue. I'm looking to turn them 7500 in a 3 liter Merc. Also has anyone weighed a wiseco, and compared it to a vertex, wsm or other

I have never run anything but wisecos, merc and omc. Agree with the .007-8 never broke one in for near that long but am sure it doesnt hurt. Dave

In comparison to what pistons and what engine? I've heard since I used them all those years ago they've changed. I'd feel better about using a forging though

WSM Vary more in weight than wiseco or vertex. I've used a lot of vertex pistons and 2-3 grams is the norm for weight spread. Wisecos are usually about the same.

I just put a 200 together for myself with some older .020 Wisecos I found on ebay for 50 bucks each so we'll see how that goes LOL
