    bumblebee v154 setback question?

Just took in a cool little boat I'm going to keep because I can self launch it in the creek up the road from the house that spits out in to Pickwick. Specs say the boat weighs 575 dry, Has a strong 70 hp johnson with tilt and trim on it and I'm getting 40 mph with me and one passenger headed downstream right now on a beat prop.

No tach at the moment and am about to fill an amazon order for one and wanted to add a jackplate and order a new prop for it as well. Anybody in the know think this little boat would see any appreciable gains from setting it up or should i run it the way it is?

If so, how much setback on the jackplate (manual) and what pitch should i start out with?

    Boat is 15' 4"

    Thanks!

will be watching this one for sure.
I have a 70 on my boat and have 17 , 19, 21 and 23 props.. I would start with a 19 pitch to get good pull away and fair top end.
my boat is a real pig of a shape and not a fast race type hull and I can hit just under 45 at the moment at 6,000 rpm with a 19 sst prop.
if you got a good hull youl probably end up over 50mph and still good take off.
what years is the 70hp or model number etc and what is the prop at the moment.
any pics of the boat ?

That's pretty dang strong! The boat is supposedly an 89 and the motor is a 93. No idea on the prop pitch, it's a beat aluminum 3 blade but i'll check when i get back home. I'd be ecstatic to see 50 out of this boat and still be able to launch it from the mud boat ramp less than 2 minutes from the house. Click image for larger version.

the motor decals are from 1997/98 . any pics of under the hood ? she might be newer than you think.
notice the hull as a pad on the bottom for speed.
I would start with 21 pitch on that hull and try for about 6300 rpm and 50mph... raise engine to its highest hole.
might not need hack plate ?

i looked up a few of them and they have a real sleek look about them

    cool looking boat.
