It would be cheaper to buy a new hull. To take a 21 Skater, widen it, lengthen it and add the center pod. Would make the boat to heavy and the cost would be more than a new hull can be purchased for. The new hulls will be in the $25k range, basically the same as the Talons. Thanks Todd

I had a guy who his Monday through Friday job was this project. Unfortunately he got a job at Honda that pays more than I could. So, I have been working on it personally with another guy after hours and still trying to do the work we have on schedule. We just hired new guy a couple of weeks ago and I am waiting on two top laminators from Dubai. Dealing with 3 year work visas now. Hopefully have them here in January. Thanks Todd

I don't see how you can make enough to recapture all of your expense before we hit the seniors home at a 25K price tag. I hope you are able to keep the small boats going but can't imagine doing it for nothing then having to warranty it, deal with the typical customer b.s., etc., etc. One thing you guys are NOT is lazy- The fact that you and Karen are able to work together and still be husband, wife and, family leaders is 100% awesome-you are absolutely living what would be considered a dream for most.

More than likely, "NO" it won't be. I have not ruled it out 100% yet, but it is about there. We will be building a few of them, but after that we are not sure yet.

We are trying to have only 4-5 models of boats. Right now I have 8 sets of cat boat molds, 2 sets of racing F1 and F2 molds and a whole lot of non-boat related molds we are working with. It is to much and I am trying to get down to just the 4-5 cat boats, do a little repair work, and sell off the molds I do not plan to keep. I only want a 10 person shop and at the rate we are going, I need a 20 person shop. I am afraid if I grow it to a 20 person shop the quality will slip, because it is to hard for me to be in that many places at one time. It is hard enough now, so I have had to sit down and make some really hard decisions. Thanks Todd

Very good question. I have a design in my head that I want to bring to life, but I need to slim down here first.

The Talon's have been the best thing that could have happened to us. It had a recognized name and great design that helped us fast track where we want to be. If I had a 100,000 sf. building, none of these molds would be going anywhere and I refuse to put them outside.

We are now starting #14 Talon 22 SS, starting #4 Talon 22 XL and have a lot more on order. I could not be more pleased. Thanks Todd

Thank you Joe. None of this would not be possible without Karen and our kids. She puts in about 60-70 hours a week and works on a lot of this at home to. I have also been very lucky to have my children (all 5 of them) come and go in here and help out. My oldest boy and I are discussing him coming back here full time and help run things. He will be 20 years old here soon, worked here through high school and has played with fiberglass his whole life. I pushed him out of here a couple years ago, because I wanted him go to college, which he is doing, but he keeps wanting to come back to this madness. We will see.

Look at it from a business point of view. An unknown, untested design vs. a well known, well sorted model that only needs some minor deck refresh. Although I have little doubt the changes Todd was making to the original would ultimately make the SEB version a standout, it's still an unknown that will take a s*h*i*t ton of hours and dollars to perfect. Sometimes you just have to go with what works and will pay the bills.

Actually the Talon 22 XL with it's taller freeboard should come close to the performance of the mods SEB planned.

Quite honestly the belief that the original 21 Skater is any more of a rough water boat than the talon 22 is more myth than reality. I've run side by side with a 21 Skater in the slop and was actually getting a better ride. If you are looking for a big water boat you are probably better offer looking at the 26 they will build than a 22 of any flavor. Sure, it's more money but I'm confident SEB will deliver a 26 at a very reasonable price, not jacked to the moon like Hustler and all the others are charging.

Mark is speaking the truth about the better ride. I was there and saw it with my own eyes the Talon was going over some nasty stuff and maintaining lots of control. The 21 was keeping it's driver very busy between the side to side rocking and the occasional standing it up. It was Good Ole Lake Slop and it was rough.

    An SS (I/O version)

Pics from that day. They don't do justice to how sloppy the water was. If I recall we were running on the mid 60's.

Having a little fun flying a wake. Always under control, all it took was a bit of throttle to drop the nose back down. I got nose high on purpose to see how it would handle it and it did exactly what I wanted it to do.
