Skater staggers them to. What we are doing is changing the the pad, location on some of them and the pad height. We spend a lot of time blue priting them. This 28 belongs to a guy in Florida. We will write about it later as it gets closer to finish. It will truly be a one off 28.

While not pretending to know what Mr. Hledin used to calculate the original tunnel compression figures on the 21, this will surely have some altering effects. How did you come up with the figures as to the width/length increases you are using? Strictly a curiosity on my part here and nothing negative meant by the question.

Long story short, I have been doing this longer than most will ever know. A lot of my experience was attributed to building F1 and F2 boats for some of the best driver's out there. http://herdracing.com/blogdetail.php?ID=613
This is the families first real fast boat. That is me without the life jacket and my brother. Our boat before that was a Checkmate with an Evinrude 235.
One of the early 24' Skater pleasure boats ordered new in 1984 and got it in 1985.
This is the first fast boat my dad and I built together. 21 Cougar, 1500 hp on alcohol, V- drive and with a 3 speed transmission. It had petal left at 140 mph.
And I raced this in Top Alcohol Hydro for a few years.
So a long story short, I have been around and a paid a lot of attention to what works and what doesn't. I had great teachers growing up to. Been in this my whole life and it has always been a way of life, not just a hobby. This is a better explanation of why I do things to the boats I do than numbers on paper. I use numbers, but I use experience more than anything. I hope that makes sense.Last edited by Spectre Powerboats; 03-29-2017 at 06:36 PM.

Todd,
The 21s have no running surface vertical transfer support?

No, the 21's and most the 24's do not have "vertical transfer supports" or as we call them stringers. Most cat boats 25 feet and under do not have them. When using one big stringer down the center of the sponson, at one time or another, it will cause a problem if not done right. Stringers when done properly work great. When they are not done properly, if keeps our shop busy.

You are correct. I was very lucky to have the experience growing up with all of them, but on the flip side, I do not get to enjoy boating like I did when I was a kid or in my 20's. 99% of everything we did and do with the boats is business and always as been. Either bought them to flip for profit, repair, bought to part out, build for resale, used them for entertainment with other companies my dad had or I had, etc. So, I have had a lot of great times in boating, but when it went from 100% hobby to 100% business, it did lose a little of it's shine.
I went without a boat for a couple of years, because I about lost it all on a bad purchase. I went and bought a bank repo 36 Skater and dumped everything I had into it and loss my butt when I had to sell it to re-coupe what funds I could and that burned me out for a little bit. So, I learned my lesson of putting all of my eggs in one basket. It was during the 2008 economy crash and I lost big on it.
Now I am enjoying being a small shop of 7 people and that includes my wife and I. I don't make the money I did in other business's, but I am happy and I am enjoying the boats and great people I am getting to meet. Being rich is not all it is made out to be. Health and happiness are price less and yes a little money helps with both of those to. Thanks Todd

Coming along nicely. More air, more lift, more speed. All good combination.

I usually look like I been tarred and feathered when I do glass or paint work , so I try to stay away from it ...
And I'm certainly no boat builder , but isn't that little triangle lookin guy ... err ... strake , double as a hull lifting devise as well as a vertical running surface stiffener thru the use of corrugation ... ?
Ain't often ya one part to do two jobs ...
