Houston I have a problem
I thought I was done with fiber glass for life! walked past the backup boat the other day, and glanced a look at the transom.Im thinking, I don't recall a bow in it.After a good look today I can say without question it's junk!------So the race is on now to get a new transom done before the Romp,Will be be doing a powerhead swap at the same time.Let the misery began .

Barge wakes on the Illinois river at the reunion last summer took a toll! DAMM some of them are big.

Never been repaired,As transoms go,it looks like a fairly easy replacement.BUT there is factory steel reinforcements in there. Not sure how that will play out.

Some of the Barge Tugs over here have Jet engines. Never the less, the wakes are crazy scary.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Looks like you'll need to plunge into it with a long blade to get below the splash well then cut it from under through the plunge cut just deep enough to stay off the hull.

I feel you man, every boat I build has a transom like this or worse....no transom at all!! At least it's the backup boat and not the primary

From what I could see today,it does not seem as though the splash well was ever bonded to the transom,as most performance boats are! I pushed a paint paddle up there all the way to the cap.I think that when the top deck is unrivited,it will just slide forward.

Is that the same SS17 at one time had a XS? Hard to keep up with all the stuff on S+F who has what. Bobby S sure did build a solid assend, but weight slamming wakes equals will takes it toll. Do a hammer tap test wet wood? I read somewhere on them Swits there was metal plate, something like that running across the assend for strength. Just can't remember.
(Edit..just went back the new post as yes, theres a plate back there)
If ya gonna redo it, (if not already have one, can't tell) add a 1/8th inch Aluminum plate transom, 2 bends lip over the top. Rebuilding the older Flat bottom mine, had a plate that distributed stress. Damn thing knee braced as small wet well, and probably could hang a big Merc back there if still floated (12 inch free board chines) but at 15 feet? Getting to old fer that BS! Fun enough like it is the IL6. Pic where the plate was, as after 5200 on all over (never get that off now), never be a prob.
