They are awesome to watch but I still can't figure why they ain't no faster 3x the horsepower and 2x tire size yet only 1/2 second faster than pro stock bikes and not near as consistent pro stock would win 8 out of 10 passes

Easy answer. Pro Stock bikes are NHRA ruled, and many now are not Jap, but V Twins. Nitro HDs are just exhibition for now NHRA. See the crowd thoughts on "start a class" them? WAY more entertaining. And more NO RULES, run what ya brung. PS bikes only doing close 200? Correct me if wrong. How about a Nitro HD at 254... (plus Nitro is WAY DIFF than gas too..diff beast) And these are Jap..

Fastest nitro Harley runs are barley 220 the nitro 4cyl jap motors are the 250 mph bikes
pro stock are breaking 200 now at mid 6 sec and the Harley bikes would be faster than that but are ruled down to be competitive with the jap bikes I love nitro bikes don't get me wrong but we talkin 1000hp vs 300 and double the traction for 25 mph and 1/2 a second

Screwed up when said HD, meant Jap 254.
I can't find anything real HD weight, much less HP. But on speeds, think (?) it has a lot to do with piston speed limits a V. Big bore, short stroke Jap can really wind'em up.

On the P/S bikes? Lots in gearing and running a transmission helps Sp/ET. Nitro bikes? HD not a lot of speed, but ET's close the Jap. I really don't know, (or care really) as long as they run'em! BUT. A HD sure SOUNDS better than Jap, hands down! To me anyway! This fro 2010..

The first day of Top Fuel qualifying from the Manufacturers Cup in Valdosta, Ga. belonged to Korry Hogan. Day two belonged to the nitro Harleys.

Tommy Grimes, aboard the 6.14-capable Ray Price V-twin, and Takeshi Shigematsu of Ehime, Japan, aboard a Don “DJ” Johnson-prepared motorcycle, dazzled fans with the quickest side-by-side Top Fuel Harley run ever. Shigematsu recorded a 6.13, unofficially the quickest nitro Harley pass to date, against Grimes’6.16.

Hogan retained the No. 1 spot thanks to his career-best 5.84 at 243 mph on Friday evening

Watched these boys here this past weekend and they have some big cajones riding those things. Front end stays in the air damn near the entire 1320 and they wear flack vests to protect themselves from engine explosions. Definitely dropped my jaw watching them.

Glad ya made it! First time seen? Impressive right , and thats what 1/4 mile racing is all about! Nothing wrong with rules, sanctioned NHRA, but nothing like a "show", the run what ya brung! Back in the 70'80's Illinois, we NEVER missed "Broadways Bobs, Great Lakes Dragway" Memorial Day, Labor Day "Jets, Wheel standers, and Nitro"! At night, bring in a kids wagon fulla beer a cooler, and grab good seats! One time a Jet set the start line tower on fire! Too much damn fun! Not a race, but more like a circus! I've seen "Michigan Madman", V8 in the bike, once a laid down IL6 Merc with 6 megaphones in a bike, a twin motor ROCKET Gokart! Crazy bunch back then!

Back to Nitro HDs. The comment "hold the front wheel down a "goose it" pits? The rotational force a V? Probably WHY they carry the front wheel the whole 1/4! Freaking over powered "unicycle", when ya think of it! When did Sturgis, always camped out Glencoe way in the back as the Sturgis 1/8 Mile Dragway (all bikes) was just across the fence, closest too get was the shut down area.
But I really do and STILL care LESS "who wins", speed, ET, just put on a damn show! Think it? If "Crashcar" went 500 miles with NO CRASHES? Who would show up? Its all in a "impress me", and I'll be back" Boring? Like watching basketball. Waste of time until the last 10 seconds.

Anyway, lets fire up a blown Nitro HD!
