    Mercury 2.4 Crankshaft sealing rings

    Hi there,
Im in the process of rebuilding my 2.4 v6 mercury. I have noticed that the 3rd crankshaft sealing ring is missing, i understand that this is down the where the oil drive gear should be, my oil pump system has been removed so i was going to fill in the gap where the drive gear should go to even out the compression in that chamber. Once this is done will i need to install a sealing ring to the empty slot on the crank or is it best left off? I was going to fill and shape the drive gear hole with epoxy and match it to the other chambers.
    Cheers

It is common to leave off the rings above the mains. Little bit of gravity action.
