About to get out the porta-ban, chopping the snout off

Pro's and cons of chopping the snout off of a factory 15" mid.

Have heard it empties the can faster and has better bottom end punch due to this? True or to make you feel better after you have just cut your cans value in half?

any problems injesting water on shut down?

motor will be a 200 carb , good electronics (drag trigger etc) 150ish psi
15" 280 can with light weight clamp bracket on a light xr2001

boat will be used for drag racing and sand bar hopping, putting mid back together now and contemplating chopping the snout off before it goes back together.

I see drag boats and tunnel boats with it done and some without.

I never noticed any difference other then more neighbor complaints. I had one on a 260 and ended up having it closed back up to look stock You can take a large open bit on a die grinder and get rid of the lip casting that makes for a big opening.. At least at idle you can keep it somewhat quite with stock snout.

I have had both and the cut one seems louder but that's about it. Looks better uncut.

Looks like it's not a real performance plus from reading this thread, and it's louder...So it really boils down to what you like and want....

I try not to let resale determine the outcome of my projects.

Yes...someday they will all be sold, but would you enjoy the end product if you compromised your project being exactly what you wanted? ... just to be able to "maybe" sell it layer for a few $$ more?

    Pass the donuts please...

I don't care about it dropping the value of it picked up the 60' time.

I would never cut my factory mariner 15" can on my everyday boat but on the drag I could really care less about looks and noise. If it actually had performance benefit it would be done.
