Great project. My advice, is stick to one system. If you choose Awlgrip, they have all the products that work together with their paint from filler to primers. That way you don't have to guess and you won't run into issues later on. The companies spend millions and tons of time developing and testing, take their word for it and they have service to help you. I'd pick between Awlgrip, Alexseal or Imron. (There are others). And use their system all the way through.
Hope that helps. And ya, generally avoid automotive products for obvious reasons.

Just wondering - is that an L88 car ?

No not an L88, but its a real 427 L72 4spd car 425hp single 4bbl motor. At least it was. But now its just a 540 700hp car with two 4bbls with oval port heads. I want low end grunt over revving the piss out of it. The original motor is in one of my storage sheds somewhere out there. The M21 close ratio is back in the car until i get a dart block and a tremec magnum 5spd. whats another 20k. LOL

Lets say for example, I sand my boat down. I'm sanding the bottom while its upside down. I like how it turns out but maybe there are a few soft spots that i can mush in a bit with my hand or i am leery of, would I literally cut that area out and fiberglass it and blend it in or would you just fiberglass over the soft area and feather it in or would you do something that I didn't mention like cut the interior floor out to reach the back of the soft spot?
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

All bad 'glass must go !!! Some things you might want to pop a mold of before you cut it out so that you will have a form to make repairing it easier . It is doubtful that your hull is soft but it never hurts to inspect everything real well . Most of the things that normally need attention are where wood was used in the construction .

Cut out floor and examine. Repair hull and replace floor. Don't cut the hull if you can get to it from the inside.

Thanks man. Good to know. Sometimes it hits the 50's here and it feels like summer. LOL. makes me wanna dig it out and start grinding away. So all boats have plywood or balsa floors pressed right into the shape of the bottom? I'm thinking I have only fiberglass. This thing is from 1970, only 14' long and weighs only two hundred something.
One thing I do know, is when I went to install that white speedometer pickup that screws to the back of the boat. I drilled a 1/16 pilot hole last summer and water squirted out of the hole like I just squeezed a zit. I'm sure that wasn't a good thing. Not quite sure how to test the rest of the transom but I'm sure it needs help even though it looks great. Especially since I'm hanging a huge 115 inline 6 off the back of it. Do you just drill test holes down there? I guess it don't matter because I'm gonna be doing body work on it anyway. If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Although i am not intimately familiar with your hull you are going to need a transom for sure and probably stringers , knees , a core and whatever else you find that might be suspect . Like Xstream says , work from the inside . If you half to cut out the deck , then so be it . There is no easy fix and many different ways to accomplish what needs to be done .
