Merc. Promax 300 powerhead gasket
When I pulled the powerhead this is the gasket that was on it. Does anyone know if this is the right or wrong gasket it appears to be wrong to me. Thanks

That's actually the better gasket from a 300x .
You'll only think it's wrong when you hear the price of that (*&%^^&**(( thing ...
If your going to use an aftermarket tuner , then you should probally get another one of those , if not the std 225 / 250 / early 300 gasket will work fine .

The picture you posted looks like the 3.0 EFI gasket used on the 200-250 EFI and the 3.0 Opits. Only one is required and they are $85 MSRP part number is 832933006.
The 300x uses gasket 8329334 which is $23.97 MSRP and two are required to sandwich the lower pan. However I notice many people withwith X's, including myself, use two of the expensive gasket which according to mercury is not necessary.

thanks for the replies, this motor has the mad tuner. and also would this have anything to do with #6 connecting rod breaking?

I know better than to argue with the guy I buy factory parts from ...
I should have said : It's a better gasket "for" a 300x instead of "from".
It's as clear as mud from Mercury ...
8329331 , 8329332 , 8329333 , 8329334 have been superseded to 8329335
The 3.2 and other late model opti's uses the 832933006
Aftermarket , like "Pro-Marine" makes it a little easier ..
Good 27-832
More Gooder 27-833

As you can see , the " Hi-Po" gasket has more meat around the exhaust ports are are generally considered to be longer lasting when using a aftermarket tuner which tends to run a little warmer .
Neither gasket will cause a broken rod on it's own . It would need to (perfect storm) blow out between the ex runner and water jacket and shoot enough water in #6 to hydro-lock the cyl . Not a real likely deal , and your gasket looks to be in good enough shape to not have that happen .
More times than not , the #5 or #6 piston will seize and the rod is not strong enough to just pull the motor to a stop . So it goes out of the side of the block ...
