Can you not make up the last sections of the exhaust to widen the pipes or whatever is needed to give the clearance needed to raise the drive up? Maybe dump out the sides of the hull.

I could exit the exhaust somewhere else. A month ago I thought I'd run with 16" up, but am nervous I'd push myself into a remote pickup and a four blade prop...

Template setup for outdrive
Here's the setup....it's at 14-1/4. I have a hole higher up at 16" above hull bottom. Not sure what's up with the picture rot....

On the transom shield, the Bravo's have a known problem with the water inlet where it passes through the shield (transom housing) if it has been used in salt water. Take the water neck off from the inside of the housing and take a pic and post it here. There is a plastic inset inside the hose where it passes through the housing and the housing will corrode and collapse the hose.

When you talk to Tyler, ask him about starting out with a 350 mag (you can find them reasonable, change the exhaust, heads, cam and add F/I). I did one for my uncles old baja 190. It picked up 12 mph and acceleration was night and day. There is a guy down here in central Florida that runs his 18 at all of the historic races held at Mt. Dora-its pretty serious when he gets in it for any length of time. I will ask about him when we go on their fun run in two weeks and try to get you his contact info.

Looks like the corrosion has started, I would get the tool to remove the insert and hose, clean up the corrosion and prime and paint it. If you still plan on going with a through hull pick up, just get the block off plate to replace the water neck and seal in the water pick up holes in the side and front of the lower unit to reduce drag.

Oh and it's a lot easier to bolt on a shorty lower than if is to pull the engine and transom assy out re glass the hole and start over.
