    Alternative to carpet.

Carpet gets wet and dirty. What else is good?

does the carpets ability to 'breath' help prevent trapping moisture?

I hate carpet in a boat that you're going to swim/ski/tube out of... probably in a bigger boat that you just "ride in" it wouldn't be so bad; but mine was always soaked when we skied a lot.

I used SEM "tintable" truck bedliner in this one... it stays kind of "rubbery" rather than getting super hard; I tinted it light gray so it would look too dirty (white) or get too hot (black). It seals the surface; although my new floor can't rot anyway.

The tintable bedliner is great. I use it daily. There are cheaper ones on ebay. They all work as long as they are catalyzed. Get some toner from the paint store off a mixing bank that does not have the balancer and binder already in it.

One thing with carpet is if you do it, do it ALL the way. Meaning, glue it down with the good outdoor waterproof glue, use good carpet, don't leave any edges open. If you snap it in or just leave it laying in the boat all kinds of dirt and **** gets trapped under it and holds moisture right next to the glass. I like carpet out here, it's nice on the feet, but somewhere like FL where it rains every day in the summer, you almost never get home from a trip without an extra 70lbs of water soaked into the carpet in your boat. The other thing about carpet in something like a bass boat, is the first wave you hit at speed is likely to give you a face full of dirt from when you got in the boat that morning. Definitely pros and cons to both.

I liked Seadek and still do. I wish I would've known about it before I gelled and webbed my action. It needs a decently flat surface to adhere too and you can get that finish with glass easily by using peel-ply on your last layer of glass work. Instead I just hogged a layer of mat down and sprayed gel on it, leaving a texture that's good for wet feet but not something like seadek. http://www.seadek.com/

There are lots of alternatives to stuck down Carpet !!!
Polypropylene floor covering is a better choice and clip it down don't glue it !! Then you can remove and wash if need be and lets everything dry properly Also if you get fish blood and guts its easy to scrub and hose down !! It doesn't hold any water !!
Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!
