The deck vacuum resin infusion is complete. Here the vacuum has been removed and cleanup of the vacuum bags is next.

the vacuum bag, breather, peel ply have been removed from the hull, exposing the beautiful top layer laminate

I was at Eliminator yesterday. It is now 7 days in the mold. Since I requested 2 weeks in the mold, there is still a week remaining. Some work can be done in the mold. I saw that the stringers were installed and some tubes near the stern for routing something through. The job looks fairly clean with near 100% resin impregnation. Very little, if any excess or pooled resin that is typical in hand laid boats. There are a few uneven or folded carbon/kevlar sheet areas. May not be an issue, but I intend to address these with the head of the lamination shop this week. These flaws are not due to the infusion and were caused by not getting the fabric completely flat and smooth before infusing.

After visiting Eliminator, I went to the LA boat show in Pomona. For the last 5 or more years, these shows have declined in boat builder participation. I did find an orange RPM Redline Cat in a small booth. The guy, Joe Malick, told me he bought the company and the last boat made. He is trying to set up some contract manufacturing for this hull on the west coast. I sincerely hope he can pull this off since the Redline cat is an excellent design. I own hull #12 of 14 built and have it for sale. Hopefully I can sell it before the Daytona is finished in March/April.Click image for larger version.

nice pics and very nice job!

the tubes maybe used to pull the hull off the molds?
it appears there's another one in the bow area

also, the pic with the white and red, is that the liner?

So the latest is that the deck is bonded to the hull, bulkheads and tanks installed. Since it is at the same point that the previous, lightest, 28 Speedster was, it was time to weigh it. I visited eliminator last Saturday as they did the weigh-in. Like an MMA fighter, I was hoping for the best. Using scales at each end, the sum of the 2 was 2250lbs. This is 60 lbs lighter than the previous lightest, which was a purpose built lightweight layup. I was expecting around 2000 since this boat was the first to be infused with urethane resin. The resin engineer told me it should be 20% lighter. I began to doubt that when we built 2 2x4 samples, one hand laid with vinyl ester resin, the other infused with urethane resin. The weight savings was 15%, far greater than the 3% achieved on my boat. Some of the increased weight is due to the deck layup. The lightest boat, that ran a best of 126 with 400's, had no stiffener laminate in the deck, only carbon/kevlar sheets. I felt that the deck was too flexible so I had them add a layer of foam in the deck. As some of you know, the foam, although very light, has slots cut in it, to absorb resin. This may have added 100-150 lbs, just guessing. I suspect the rigged weight of my boat will be more than the lightest boat which did not have bilge pumps, drain plugs, engine cover vents, etc. Mine will also have a bimini top which my wife insisted on. I expect it will come in around 4600 lbs rigged, about 100 more than the light, very fast boat which Speedboat tested in the March 2017 issue. My boat will likely be a couple MPH slower, in the 120-121 mph range with 2 people aboard as was the magazine test. I hope it accelerates nearly as well, 0-90 in 20 sec, compared with the same powered DCB that went 60 in the same 20 sec. Since eliminator is posting lots of pics on River Daves, I will only add some descriptions and different pics I take. These are of the scales when weighing the boat last weekend.

Yes, do you like it? I wanted to do something different from greens and oranges that may be less likely to go out of style. Also, picked different graphics from what Eliminator is currently using. Their gelcoater liked it as well, partly because it was different from the last few boats he did.
