Why wouldn't you put a 3L on an HST? You may want to put a shorter midsection on it and get some weight off but it's probably not necessary unless you want to run some big numbers with it. Theres a guy on here (RRRevinrude I think) that had a 3L Evinrude on one that ran mid 120's according to the old Taylor Marine website and I think you can find info here about it if you search.
I've read all the threads on rrr's boat, what does the 3.3 liter jonson weigh compared to the 250 opti ? That thing i have is heavy even with lightweight cowling,i only have 16 hours on a complete warranty PH. And 205 lifetime total on the rest of the chassis. When i serviced the TM in the fall the oil was mint, it runs stout on my paramount 21

Is there room in the bottom of housing to move the 4 holes to the bottom like a sporty?

Are there differences in internal parts from a sporty?

I'd guess around 425-450lbs. You could get there with the right midsection/clamp.

The weight on the hst shouldnt be a problem. They even run v8's on them. There are also some with 3l mercs nut no optimaxes. Most run up to 16" setback with 2.5"'s. So just run less setback. Only thing to Watch out with is the 3.0 sporty i think. A coned tm might run better. If i had a 250xs i would def try It.

If possible could you please post a picture. I ordered a bobs cone but would much rather do something like you're describing.

I have found that a torquemaster will top out the exact same speed as the boat most of the time. Even when carried in the boat, Torquemaster will still equal top speed of the boat. I have had a torquemaster in the trunk of my Hellcat that ran up a little past 160mph. Another test when boat was being pulled behind Lisa's F250 it actually topped out exactly the same as truck and boat.

This research was done using government guidelines. So after many dollars spent. No helpful information was gathered.
