Looks like it's an 84 and not an 89. Do you have another pic that shows the rest of the motor. Never seen one with the boost ports tied together.

The bleed lines are confusing in the pics. Maybe in front of you it would make sense but in the pics not so much. Looks like the date on the block is July 10 1984. Might be a screamer, who knows. Good luck.

Hard to tell but by counting the reed plate bolts on the intake it appears to be a 14 pedal reed cage motor. Now if you look at the head bolts it can`t be 1982 or older (they are to close together) so that puts the block at 1983-1991 (finger port style).
Rock your eyes are better than mine. I couldn`t see the date but if it`s a 1984 motor w/14p reed blocks it would have to be from high perf. However if it is then it should have a light flywheel and no paint like the 2.4 high perf motors of that day. Normally it would also have a pan and light cowl. Can`t see that or if it has a one piece exhaust plate so jury is out on this one till we see more detailed pics.

The block has no oil injection boss. They were present for at least a full year, but not utilized, in '83, before oil injection was introduced in '84. If no oil injection boss, then it would be an '82 block or so, back to a '78 block. Looks to be somewhat of a parts motor. If its the year grouping I mention, it would have a red flywheel(not that it matters), & two piece heads(not that it matters), etc. For the regular 200's, model year 1984 was the year of many changes. Finger-ports, which were previously on the race motors, became standard. Intregal clamp bracket power trim, "Net" horsepower ratings(propshaft) versus "Gross" horsepower ratings(crankshaft), Brown Stripes versus the previous years Blue Stripes, higher amp flywheel(gray versus red), sweptback gearcase skegs, new staggered reed intake, oil-injection system, which allowed less oil use at lower r.p.m.'s, etc., etc... All production engines were painted black, Hi-Performance Division engines were bare.

You can change heads but you cannot change head bolt pattern. 1983 up had this pattern. Hp rating system was changed for the 1982 year modles so the 1981 non finger port 225 became the 1982 200 with simple decal change for one year only. 1983 saw a completely new block with different head bolt pattern and finger ports also with the new smaller 10 pedal reed cage front half.
For three years (1981,1982&1983) us engine inspectors at the races had to keep up with the changes and how they fit the rules.

front half older than block half... seven petal went away for five petal '82's... oiler came with block change in '83/'84.... starter dated '79.... probably '80 225 model that went south... block half replaced with later model... build date stamp?
