Cannot speak for the original poster but from my experience a Starflite with a 225 Merc should run north of 70mph GPS. If set up correctly should be about 72 to 75 mph..I had a Starflite with a Mercury Pro XB250 and the boat ran 80+ with one person on board..

There seems to be more cockpit space in the Starflite than the Pulsare 2100, however, the cabin (playpen) in the Pulsare is taller and more usable than the Starflite. The Starflite's mini step in the hull may help it come out of the hole but it's virtuously useless once the boat is running at higher speeds. The Starflite does have a "V" pad bottom which runs wetter than the Pulsare's 6" flat pad. Power for power I feel the Pulsare is slightly faster and has a better ride due to the 19 degree deadrise when it gets rough. The Starflite does have the two built in coolers on each side of the splashwell that come in really handy but the Pulsare has deeper storage under the rear bench seat..I've owned both models and enjoyed them both. If I were to get another 21' Checkmate I would lean more towards the Pulsare. Hanging the boat on the pad at 80+ mph will always put a grin on your face but don't take this the wrong way. The Starflite will also ride on it's V-pad as shown in my picture:

Pulsare is faster, my Starliner with 4 inch set back and 250xs is in the 70's. Not sure I would want to run my Starliner in the 80's.
