There is no wood core in an hst, other than the center pod.but there is some foam in the bottom tips of the outer sponsons, and then about 4" below the top flats of the sponsons a thin glass layer is layed up,as the bottom of a foam box. The decks are then layed down, holes drilled in spots,to pour more flotation foam into. The lower foam in the tips i believe to be for stiffening the sponsons. The 2nd layer for stiffness and flotation.

This is one of my canadian edition ae 21,same hull as an hst, the foam runs from the rear corners, all the way forward to about 3' under the dash, you gotta remove the 1/4" decking and the foam is right there, i had 4 big assed contractor bags of the chit, that i could barely carry to the dumpster....lol

The only balsa core is in the center pad area, from transom forward, where the broom is in the pic.it actually was the best layed up section of the boat, and dry.

Honestly that bar is the best tool i have bought for $20 in years, came in real handy under the gunwales and for getting the transom out. My transom wasnt rotten,so harder to delam and tear it out. I like that the bar has a strike face, for whacking it into small spaces under the wood. Dont worry, i pulled some well bonded plywood up with it. No issues at all. I found that they used a ton of stainless screws to layer the transom, that bar paid for itself quickly tearing that chit apart.

I also used that bar to bust up the foam, then i basically shaved the wet foam, with a dewalt wide wood/drywall blade on my oscillating tool, that made quick work of the foam, w/out any damage to the light glass bottom of the foam box.
