I understand the 39 psi, but I burned a piston with the stock VST, so I am Leary of going that low until I sneak up on it.

I turn my 7600 with VST and 36# and an SVS with no problem....I doubt fuel pressure was your problem or the fix......39# is the pre 95 xri system, 34-36 on the FF and promax motors.

If the temps are to high for you at WOT and you are running a Brucato box turn the pot a little to fatten the motor up at high RPM easy fix

Or change the fuel system to a 56# regulator

Resurrecting this thread with some more questions. I recently bought a Valero YT with a carb 200 that's had some porting etc done to it and Fluke temp sensors. Notes from a previous owner said to watch for 1250 max temp and 5,000 rpm tended to run hotter. I've only run it once and it did climb close to 1300 around 5,000. Would run cooler at lower or higher rpm. I'm more familiar with motocross carbs where you can move the needle to adjust mid range fuel mix. Is there any way to adjust the fuel mix on these carbs other than the main jets. His notes said: WH-46 carbs with .080 jets in 1,3,4,6 and .082 in 2 and 5. Thanks for any advice.

See if it has the vent jets, located in the area just above the throat openings. Will need to remove air box to see them. Not all carbs have them and the just could be removed. These jets are used to lower the pressure in the bowls during part throttle to lean mixture down for cruising. Put larger jets in to richen, or remove them completely. ( I normally remove them, not interested in fuel economy lol) May not be a problem either, could be reading a bit of flame or something at that rpm. If it has vent jets up them or remove to see if it helps, if gets worse your reading flame and are a little rich at cruise.

Thanks for the detailed advice. The boat is in a shop getting some gelcoat fixed but I'll check it out next weekend. Guessing if I determine it's rich, then there's no worry about the temp getting high in that rpm range? Thanks again.

I have pyro's in my stock 260. Had them in the 2.4's and previous modded 260 as well. On the 2.4's and modded 2.5, I ran a PCU and adjusted for 1200*F. When the last one scuffed, I bought the stock, 75hr, never been opened 260 and put my 33cc heads and a A48 (drag chip, no limiter) on it. Otherwise, completely stock. With the EGT's in the same location, bottom two bolts of the divider, it ran 1425-1430*F at WOT. Ran that way for 2 or 3 years until it finally lost a locating pin somewhere near 200 hrs.
