Maybe because practically every single offshore mid being sold has an exhaust snout hanging out the back.

The way it was explained to me was the ones with above water exhaust are race offshore mids, and I can't think of any of them that are marked with an "offshore" decal (thinking 2.5 EFI, 260, 280). The 3.4L motors have the beefier transom bracket w/single ram and remote trim pump, which may be why they got an "offshore" sticker (as opposed to the bass/3 ram setup), but even then I think I remember a 3.0 carb 225 w/out above-water exhaust having a 3 ram bracket and an "offshore" sticker.....

Plenty of mention of "race" or "racing" with the above water exhaust, a little mention of "offshore", but only one offshore sticker on the racing models. You'll find dozens of offshore stickers on fishing motors.
