Help Hanging This Door
I'm doing a little work over my garage this Winter as I clean it out. I had this door hanging around that I never used in our house and want to use it. The swing space is a bit tight so I'm thinking instead of hinges I'd like to rig it to slide left or right. I may have to go with a barn door overhead track system but before I do, figured I would throw it out to the S+F idea pool to see what ya'all tinkerers might suggest would work on the cheap. The door is 36" wide and 2" thick, probably weighs about 100lbs. All crazy ideas welcome

Build a pocket. Would be a cool project.

I'm not sure what you can do with that arched top; but Johnson Hardware is where we bought all our pocket door hardware: http://www.johnsonhardware.com/pdindex.htm

You could use the wall mount from johnson hardware http://www.johnsonhardware.com/200wf.htm and get a wood insert http://www.rockler.com/steel-threade...ts-select-size and inset it into the crown of the door to screw the truck (door hanger) into..... Then you need to control the swing of the door, possibly with a couple wheels counter sunk into the bottom of the door

The door has an apex, a single point to hang the door, which the flat bracket for the door hanger would have to be bent to conform to the top of the door. Instead of using the flat bracket, unscrew the door hanger wheels off the bracket, put the wood insert into the top of the door and screw the door hanger into the insert.

The "wood insert" is basically a wood screw on the outside with a machine screw hole on the inside... so you can bolt into wood with regular hardware.

Put a Lambo door hinge kit on it.

I hang sliding barn doors in my new homes quite often. I would use an overhead rolling hardware kit (there are many) attached to a wood rail that you install (screw and epoxy) on the back of the door. You will have to build out the back of the door along each side to match the rail in order to seal the door. I use peel and stick weather stripping to help with the seal and it also stops the door from scraping the wall. Hope this helps. Gary
