...The reason was the mid. They were not designed for a tiebar. That combined with a tension-compression Ride-Guide set-up and regular mounts, equals a fractured stock mid. Rare also in those days, were tie-barred standard mids...that came in and out of the water. This was the reason for the more popular BP mids that were coming into play on multi's. But thats how we learned what worked, and sometimes didn't. As you said though, you would never see this on any single then.

---Interesting---but all these engines were delivered with solid mounts. And in March, 1969, the adapter had not been utilized. If you ran a SSM, the stock mid was your only choice---

Were you included in the we? In the Golden Age---66--67--68---69--??

A lot of things were going on back then---I recall running a Triple 28' Magnum that was rigged with two BP's--and a Stock 20" engine in the center---and with inside and outside tiebars---this was in 68--before the SUPER BP and before the long shaft SUPER BP was used on the offshore boats----

I ran an adjustable thrust bracket on almost every boat I raced back then. This solved the twin problems of breaking stock swivel pins and shocks/motor mounts. Also provided easy way to fine tune motor angle. Running those clunky "half pin" pipes didn't work very well and sometimes you would get busted on inspection when it would cause shifting problems.

...Which you know...in offshore use, can put even more stress on stock mids, that are tie-barred.

Yes, the SSM bolted right up to the stock mid in those years...

Gene, this boat came along a couple years later, but, did you help rig any of it? Juan Hernandez four engine Super BP's, then Twister 1's. No real good offshore gearcases could be had. Stock inline gearcases didn't last long & SSM's were out of the question due to weakness & small propellers, etc. What survived the longest, believe it or not, on the Twister 1's on Juan's boat...were BP gearcases...
