Stage 1 Hydrostream virage setup
Hey guys. Just purchased a restored virage and am planning on putting my 225 pm that is currently on a Valero on it. I have a bobs low water pickup with a 30x14.5 merc cleaver at the moment.
What sould I expect from this boat regarding speed and handling compared to the Valero? Any suggestions on setup would be great. Currently the Valero is running high 80's
Thanks

Contact Crankbearing (Dave from Aim Marine). He restored that boat and ran it wuth a promax ( I'm pretty sure). It is a beautiful boat, congrats on the purchase!

Thank you. Yes the boat is gorgeous. I've tried to contact him with no success. Maybe I'll try calling aim marine. I want to find out more about it and how it runs with a promax.

He is busy wrapping up for the season no doubt. That should run well with a promax, enjoy!

Thanks. The boat is actually up in haliburton stored away for the winter now. Can't wait for next season!

Here he says he was running just under 80 with a low revving 200 and a 30" prop at 10" setback. With your promax, 10" back I'd expect to see at least 80. I know of a YT Valero running over 100 with a promax, they're stout motors.

Ok thanks. I ran 87 with this motor on the Valero. I hope it will run close to the same speed. Motor is from top gun marine so it is running strong.

For all around use I would go down to a 26-28 round ear with more lift. I used to have a Virage and I have a Promax now.

I had an 89 Virage with a 225 pm. 32" cleaver got me 99.4 mph. Great motor for that hull. I was running 8" setback. 10" is good also.

Ok thanks. When you got that speed of 99 mph how did you get there? I've heard you trim up and then bump up the jack plate. Is this true? Will the cleaver still hold the lake if you lift the Jack plate up to where the water pressure starts to drop? I think it's going to take a while to learn this boat.

The Virage drives like a car. No secrets.
Get on plane and trim motor level. Start jacking till water pressure drops to 12# then bump trim one bump at a time watching tach and speed.

Ok that helps. I've always just set the jack plate and left it in one spot on the Valero. So I'm guessing my setup should be capable of high 80's?
Thanks Ron
