Skater named "Something Special" . My start in HP boating interest.

My first fast boat ride was in a black Skater with twins named "Something Special" around 1992.
I was with my wife (then girlfriend) at the docks in Cheboygan Wisconsin drooling over the boat which was on the trailer. Struck up a conversation with the owner who was a pilot (hence the name which was part of American Airlines slogan).
Next thing I know we are idling out of the harbor in this thing and the driver and copilot are putting helmets on. Me and the other guy had to climb out on the bow to get it to plane off.
We ripped up and down the beach a few times and the guy said it was right around 100mph (no gps), The fastest I have gone in a boat until recently.

Anyone know of the boat or the owner?

I don't know this boat personally, but I have a some good friends that are brother that own a black 24 Skater, and they used to own a marina and charter fish out of Sheboygan, WI in that timeframe. There is a Cheboygan, MI, you do mean the WI version, right?

I'll ask them this weekend if they knew of that boat, as I'm certain if it frequented there they'd have seen it and been all over it. Give me till next week and I will report back.

Funny how you remember that first one, isn't it? My first fast V (well, sort of a V) was a 19' HydroStream in my hometown in WI, at 91 MPH on radar in 1988, and my first tunnel style hull was Mike Nix's in Placida in 97 or 98@120.

We'll see what we can find...

Man, I wonder just how many of us on here were swayed into the high speed world by a skater....my first go fast ride over a 100 was in a 24' skater.

One of the two brothers just called me, and he doesn't remember that boat at all. They lived there all summer and ran charters every day, so they pretty much knew what was around on a regular basis, unless your guy was just visiting. He also said that they spent most of the day 25 miles offshore, so that could account for it, too.

The other brother is on a cruise right now, I'll catch up with him next week.
